PT/PTA Requirements
All licensees desiring to remain active and in good standing must complete 24 hours of WV board approved CE courses within the 2 year licensing period. This board’s CE requirements are listed in Legislative Rule §16-1-10 found within the Rules & Laws section. Per our CE guidelines, courses sponsored by the APTA, the WVPTA, BOC and any CAPTE accredited school are automatically approved by this board and are not required to be submitted for review.
If any of your CE courses are not WV Board approved, or you do not have enough CE hours, you will be in violation of the Physical Therapy Law for the State of WV. Please be advised that you must truthfully attest on your renewal request that your CE requirements, as stated in law, have been fulfilled at the time of renewal.
Uploading Continuing Education for Renewal
All licensees are now required to upload their continuing education prior to renewal. In order to make this easier and save time, if you have taken multiple courses from the same CE provider (ex. Medbridge) then you may upload all certificates under one file. (Ex. Course Title: CE Courses, Course Provider: Medbridge, Activity Type: Online or Live, Date of Completion: date of most recent course completed, Number of Hours: (add up the total hours being submitted for that provider ex. 16). Then upload all Medbridge certificates as one file. This is only a suggestion, you may upload each course individually if you like.
Audit
In February of each calendar year, 10% of active PT/PTA licensees are chosen in a random continuing education audit. If any of your CE courses are not WV Board approved, or you do not have enough CE hours, you will be in violation of §16-1-10 in legislative rule and fail the CE audit. Those who fail the audit must complete a continuing education audit agreement, which requires remedial actions to remain an active licensee in good standing.
Athletic Trainer Requirements
All licensees desiring to remain “active” and in good standing must complete 50 units of WV board approved continuing education within the two-year licensing period. This board's CE requirements are listed in Legislative Rule §16-5-11 found within the Rules and Laws section. Per our CE guidelines, courses sponsored by the NATA, WVATA, BOC and any CAATE accredited school are automatically approved by this board.
Please be advised that you must truthfully attest on your renewal request that your CE requirements, as stated in law, have been fulfilled at the time of renewal.
Audit
In July of each calendar year, 10% of active AT licensees are chosen in a random continuing education audit. The Board will look up each individual's BOC certification to verify that continuing education requirements have been met.
